DM04 USB 2.0 Satellite TV Box Key components: Keywords: DM04 USB 2.0 Satellite TV Box, Leaguer MicroElectronics LME2510C, Montage Technology M88RS2000, DVB-S, DisEqC1.2, dvbusblmedm04, EzTV210 1.1, FORWARDVIDEO Leaguer MicroElectronics LME2510C Leaguer MicroElectronics LME2510C seems to be rather standard digital television USB interface. It contains some extra features, like remote controller and PID filtering. Chip seems to need also firmware which is downloaded by the driver. There is small 8 pin IC near LME2510C, but unfortunately markings are overwritten with blue paint. I can see still numbers 24, likely serial eeprom like 24C02. Usually that kind of eeprom is for storing desired USB ID.
When bridge powers-up, it firsts downloads USB ID from the eeprom and connects to the USB bus using that ID. Black box right side of LME2510C is IR -receiver for remote controller. Metal box, 12.000 MHz crystal, is LME2510C clock source.
Long wires, which goes top-left direction, are USB Rx/Tx to the USB -connector. There is clearly visible 8 lines to the other chip on left side.
That other chip is M88RS2000. As there is 8 similar lines between demodulator and USB -interface like that, it means most likely parallel transport stream bus. It is bus where picture stream bits are travelling from demodulator to the USB -interface. Linux driver: name: dvbusblmedm04 author: Malcolm Priestley Montage Technology M88RS2000 Montage Technology M88RS2000 is quite highly integrated satellite receiver. It integrates LNB controller, RF-tuner and demodulator to one package.

Quite often those are all sold as a separate chips. Metal box is 27.000 MHz clock source.
Antenna connectors are routed to the that chip too since it includes RF-tuner. M88RS2000 is rather legacy design as it supports only old DVB-S standard, newer DVB-S2 standard is very common nowadays.
New version of that chip, which supports DVB-S2 too, is available. Linux driver: name: m88rs2000 author: Malcolm Priestley [email protected] USB interface IDLE current drain without driver: 64mA (66mA without external PSU) lsusb -vvd 3344:22f0 Bus 002 Device 002: ID 3344:22f0 Device Descriptor: bLength 18 bDescriptorType 1 bcdUSB 2.00 bDeviceClass 0 (Defined at Interface level) bDeviceSubClass 0 bDeviceProtocol 0 bMaxPacketSize0 64 idVendor 0x3344 idProduct 0x22f0 bcdDevice 0.00 iManufacturer 0 iProduct 0 iSerial 3??? Well, I don't want dvb-s2 since it's nearly all paytv here and this guy claims satisfaction, with the driver: Got the 2nd SFVT EzTV102 V1.2 PCB 'EasyTV-DM04DVBS' Serial 'DM04P201305xxxx', CD press stamp 'DM04P(VER46.2BO)', today, but cannot test yet, dish unmounted due to painter works until next days. I suggest the MP04- 'Fans': 1.
Trying the firmware extracted from latest driver CDs. Verify driver functionality with M88RS2000 chipset datasheets and manuals, Montage origin sample code (Not linking here, meet me in #linuxtv next weeks if You and the users like to, one mailing list thread says something about unknown 'purpose registers'?). Crosscheck by testing with windos.
Long duration USB disconnect errors tests (syslog, USB debug enabled). Shield the case with aluminium foil, the pcb shield layer maybe insufficent against distortion from mobile phone relays, etc.
Exchange the M88RS2000 crystal, check aux circuit (supply voltage fading+noise, etc), maybe (design) fault. 'Updowngrade' tuner removing the M88RS2000 and using the latest driver supported sharp tuner: e.g. (Sharp IX2476+STx0288) Looks doable with smd soldering equipment, 15pins using parallel media bus, possibly extra LNB voltage circuit needed, IX and STV drivers usable by probing even with the same USB PID. I've planned to use one as USB-bridge (10US$) for It's the WQC DTC5-C22FM1H version of Philips CU1216MK3 (TDA6509A+TDA10023HT):-) USB DVB-C products at this FE- quality would be no less than 80US$. But we need the Pinout/footprint of the M88RS2000 to know how to connect another tuner, manual soldering direct to the LME bridge chip is impossible, have You got it? Montage does not answer anything but high quantity orders:-( Otherwise I've to use another USB- bridge with known pinout (Supported cheap dvb-t stick).
WARNING WARNING WARNING! While I'm writing these lines the included AC adapter TH-0302 (PCB TH-689)'s primary transformer switching circuit EXPLODED with a loud bang and burnt smell! DO NOT BUY OR USE THIS CRAP, YOU RISK YOUR LIFES WITH FIRE- OR E-SHOCK- HAZARD, WTF, ARE THEY NUTS??? It happened to me one year ago (I some days before I contacted Malcolm Priestley to ask him about some hardware bugs and about the role of the power supply, btw). It was the power supply that exploded with a big spark in my hand (with no harm, happily) in the first second I plugged it.
